TITLE:  Lead Project Design Engineer

 

Duties:  Lead and coordinate a subproject to assure on-time and high quality product development with given support from the conception phase through series production. Analyze and evaluate changes (internal/ external), cooperate in negotiations (e.g. volume and costs of changes, etc.) and assure implementation. Create and check project reports and presentations, as well as project conclusion documentation. Oversee technical designers on technical and conceptual drawings. Oversee generation of and check releasable 3D models of technical parts to verify that they meet customer as well as legal requirements. Ensure that all documentation is properly created and maintained for new parts, modified parts, and purchase parts. Ensure that data is properly stored within PLM and that data transfer is occurring in an effective manner. Participate in FMEA documentation. Management of developed parts until series production.  Evaluate alternatives and recommend product solutions to components/assembly concerns throughout the development process. Responsible for customer interaction, attending customer meetings, conducting technical correspondence. Verify design progress and plan the design resources accordingly. Make sure that the external and internal timelines and milestones are met. This position requires 10% domestic and 10% international travel. Remote work is permitted, up to 40% of the time, within a reasonable commuting distance of the Duncan, SC office.

REQUIREMENTS:   Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field of study and five (5) years of experience as a (all levels) Design Engineer, Development Engineer or related role where required experience gained.

SPECIAL SKILLS:  Also requires experience in the following:

 

  • Five (5) years CAD product development within automotive interior components;
  • Three (3) years automotive industry product development, part and tool design;
  • Three (3) years GD&T, Plastic part development, injection molding processes;
  • Three (3) years product development and production processes;
  • Three (3) years CAD design requirements (UG NX or Catia);
  • Three (3) years BAP and WAP structure and process;
  • Three (3) years product lifecycle management software (Siemens Teamcenter);
  • Three (3) years Surfacing, 3D design and 2D layout skills in CATIA V5 and NX Unigraphics;
  • Three (3) years plastic part development and design principles;
  • Three (3) years automotive and manufacturing standardized process (FMEA, APQP, PPAP); and
  • Three (3) years plastic part injection molding simulation, analysis and evaluation in MoldFlow.
